How long does a truck need to sit on a lot before I can lowball the hell out of it? Asking for a friend. The friend is me.

After 90 they really want to get it moved, now what do you mean by lowball, depends on what the incen tives are from the manufacturers, all in all I’d say 5% would be an easy get 10% would be wishful thinking.

Some dealers get really cantankerous to the point where they will cut off their own noses to spite their faces. They don’t want to admit they were wrong.

How much they are asking?  My dad got his ZR2 at 35K because it sat for a month. The lesser Z71 were more expensive!

Yup...I watched a used truck drop from $21k to $17k over the course of 3 months. Told them I’d buy it at $16.5k and they agreed. Went to test drive it and it was making no boost (it was a turbo diesel)...told them I’d still take it if they dropped it to $14k. The manager actually balked and said “N ope, I’m sending it auction!”

LOL, perfect example! He’d rather eat what profit he could have had than lose a “negotiation”.

I had a Jabba the Hut dealer like that when I bought my Riviera. I was this 20-something kid full of piss and vinegar who had researched what the car was worth on the market and went in with that chip on my shoulder. He wouldn’t budge from thinking he could sell it for a $3k premium. He smuggle wasted my time, probably to teach this know-it-all punk a lesson rather than give in.

I went to another dealer, and bought it for what I wanted to pay. Great part is, I bought the same car (same VIN) that Jabba had refused me . The other dealer got it for me in a transfer (because it had the options I wanted). Jabba didn’t make a cent on the car, only paid to keep it on his lot for me until I bought it .

Three months. Just have a reasonable number in your head, you’ll get it. You won’t get it for 15 bucks.

the ZR2 market was ice cold the last time I bought one...back in May. Those things are tough sells/buys

And yet, even though no one wants them, dealers aren’t dropping prices.

I mean, if I’m buying it, it won’t be until the spring. Got plenty of time to think about it.
